Communications Sergeant Peter Gurney

Peter Gurney joined the Unalaska Police Department in September 2009 as a Communications Officer and was promoted to Communications Sergeant in 2012. He is certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, and Emergency Police Dispatch through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), and also holds Quality Assurance Provider certifications in both Emergency Medical and Emergency Police Dispatch.

Sgt. Gurney serves as the Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for the department and has represented his colleagues as President of the Unalaska chapter of the Public Safety Employees Association (PSEA) since 2015.

In addition to his duties with the department, Sgt. Gurney has served as Chairperson of the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) since April 2023, supporting regional emergency preparedness and response coordination. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University (2021) and earned a Certificate in Project Management from Cornell University in June 2023.
